People occasionally say "a political race is like a popularity contest," or "an election is like a beauty contest," or some permutation of those phrases -- about 10,000 instances of similar sentiments turn up in a Google search. By contrast, "political race" + "childrens beauty pageant" returns absolutely nothing. Apparently the SA Forum Goons were the first to combine these things, and like computers and corpses, they make a bad mixture!
